July 2012 News Stabbing at Tenacious D Concert This past Saturday night, Tenacious D had to shorten a show at House of Blues in Las Vegas after an altercation led to a stabbing. The victim was stabbed in the leg and was taken to the hospital. The suspect has been arrested. There are no further details at this time. Musicians Put on Benefit for Teachers Fun., Josh Groban, and Dierks Bentley are performing a benefit for teachers. On Aug. 14, the “Teachers Rock” concert will take place at Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles. The concert will be aired on August 18 on CBS. The special will also feature messages from Dave Grohl, Carrie Underwood, Usher, and Adam Levine among others. The proceeds will go to Teach for America, DonorsChoose.org and Feeding America. Aerosmith Album Slated for November Aerosmith’s Music from Another Dimension is scheduled to be released November 6. They have revealed a duet with Carrie Underwood on a song called “Beautiful”. On “Love Three Times a Day”, Julian Lennon joins in on harmony. Johnny Depp contributes backing vocals on “Freedom Fighter”. “Legendary Child” is the lead single from their upcoming album. Bruce Springsteen Announces Fall Tour Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band has announced a fall tour of North America. They are touring in support of the latest album, Wrecking Ball. The band started this tour in March of this year. With Slash 360, fans can enter Slash’s studio through 360-degree cameras and see what it was like for him during the recording process. There are two versions of the app available. For $0.99, fans can get “You’re a Lie” plus other features. Fans can get the full album along with more extras for $4.99. Slash 360 can be purchased on iTunes. Radio Personality Auctions Autographed MacBook for Aurora Victims WJFX’s Andrea Russert is stepping up to help the children of the Aurora shooting victims. She placed her prized MacBook Air up on eBay with a starting bid of $788. The brand new, never used MacBook is autographed by many artists that Russert has interviewed including One Direction, The Wanted, B.O.B., Rita Ora, and Breathe Carolina. The current bid is at $14,500. Russert has offered to fly anywhere in the world to hand deliver the MacBook to the winner. The auction is up until August 3 at 9:03 PST. It is noted on eBay, that it will be relisted for another ten days until 62 days have passed to equal the total number of victims. Russert is asking that bidders re-bid each time the item is listed. The Killers Release New Music Video The Killers released the video for “Runaways” , the lead single from the upcoming album Battle Born. The album will be available on Sept. 17. The band is also getting interactive on social media to reveal the new album art. Fans can go to their Facebook page where they will complete four tasks. Fans will have to share it on their wall, send to a friend, tweet a message and listen to “Runaways”. Once the tasks are completed, the Battle Born cover will be unveiled. Killer of Jennifer Hudson’s Family Members Sentenced William Balfour was sentenced to life in prison without possibility of parole for the murders of Jennifer Hudson’s brother, nephew, and mother. He is the ex-brother-in-law of Hudson. Judge Charles Burns sentenced Balfour to three consecutive life sentences as well as an additional 120 years on the charges of home invasion and kidnapping. Balfour’s motion for a new trial was also denied. Snoop Dogg Releases Reggae Album; Changes Name Snoop Lion has a new album called Reincarnated. Snoop Lion and Snoop Dogg are one in the same. His band is called “the Jungle”. The first single is “La, La, La”. No date for the album has been set, but is expected to be hit shelves by the year’s end. For more on Snoop Lion, check out his Twitter and Facebook. The Beatles Release iTunes Only Compilation Tomorrow Never Knows, a 14 track compilation from The Beatles, is now available via iTunes. Priced at $7.99, it features “Paperback Writer”, “Helter Skelter”, and the title track. When the collection is purchased, you have the option to stream or download the video for “Hey Bulldog”. There is also a note from Dave Grohl about The Beatles’ influence on him that comes with the download. The Killers Perform New Music The Killers kicked off their mini-summer U.S. tour in Asheville, NC last Thursday. They opened the concert with their new song “Runaways”. The band also played several tracks from their upcoming album, Battle Born. Watch the performance of a new song, “Miss Atomic Bomb”. The Orange Peel’s YouTube channel has several other videos from that night’s show. No Doubt’s First Live Performance in Over a Decade On Sunday night, No Doubt performed together live for the first time since they went on hiatus over a decade ago. They performed “Settle Down”  at the  2012 Teen Choice Awards. The Avett Brothers to Perform Giveback Concert The Avett Brothers and Cheerwine are coming together for a concert to benefit family-aid organizations in the United States. The concert, Legendary Giveback, will take place October 19 at the nTelos Wireless Pavilion in Charlottesville, VA. Fans can stream the concert by volunteering in their community. Watch this stop-motion promo video  featuring The Avett Brothers new song “Live and Die”. Usher’s Stepson Dies Usher’s stepson from ex wife, Tameka Foster, Kyle Glover has died. Glover, 11, was taken off life support this past Saturday, July 21. On July 8, Glover was involved in a jet ski accident that left him brain dead. He was not expected to recover and the family was informed that insurance would not cover Glover’s care for an extended period of time. Update on Usher’s Stepson Several outlets are reporting that Usher’s stepson, Kyle, may be taken off life support next month. His insurance is running out and they’ve indicated that they will no longer cover care for Kyle after a couple months, including the time that he has already spent in the hospital. Although Usher has been extremely supportive of his former stepson, he is not an option financially. Kyle was in an accident on July 6 in Atlanta, GA. He was on a inner tube when the rider of a jetski hit him and knocked him unconscious. He was declared brain dead shortly thereafter. Mumford & Sons Reveal New Album Release Date Two weeks ago, Mumford & Sons released this trailer. If you assumed this meant new music, you would be correct. The band has revealed that “Babel” will be available on September 25. No Doubt’s New Video Premiers Tonight After 11 long years, No Doubt is unveiling a brand new music video. “Settle Down” is the lead track of the band’s upcoming album. Slash Gets a Star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame Rock musician, Slash, received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame this week. Charlie Sheen inducted him. He was also inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame this year with Gun’s N’ Roses. The rocker told Rolling Stone, “I definitely feel like I’m cresting a certain wave in my career where I’m having a really great time, I love what I’m doing, I love the people I’m working with and I’m feeling very energized.” Read more about Slash’s thoughts. Spike Lee’s Bad Documentary Spike Lee has been working on a documentary about Michael Jackson’s iconic Bad album and tour. It will be released in time for the album’s 25th anniversary. No date has been set for the documentary’s release. The documentary features interviews that Lee conducted with musicians, collaborators, and confidants. It will also include an interview with Jackson’s former backup singer, Sheryl Crow. A box set to commemorate the anniversary will be released on September 18. Learn more about the documentary. Fleetwood Mac to Reunite in 2013 On CBS This Morning, Stevie Nicks confirmed that Fleetwood Mac would be reuniting in 2013. No other details were given. Read more here. Coldplay to Release Mylo Xyloto Comic Book Series Coldplay has announced the release of their six part comic book series based off Mylo Xyloto, the main character on their latest album. The first issue will be released on July 13 at Comic-Con. Coldplay teamed up with Mark Osborne (Kung Fu Panda) to create the series. Bongo Comics Group will be releasing the comics. Osborne explains the premise “It is the story of Mylo Xyloto, a young Silencer on the front lines of a war against sound and color in the world of Silencia. Mylo discovers that the enemy he’s been trained to hate his whole life might not be the enemy after all. There will hopefully be many, many connections for people who have heard the album.” The remaining comics will be released beginning next February. Read more details. The Killers Release New Single The Killers have released their new single, “Runaways”. It is the lead single off their upcoming album, Battle Born, due out September 18. Listen now. Usher’s Stepson Declared Brain Dead Usher’s stepson (and son of his estranged wife, Tameka), Kyle Glover, has been declared brain dead after a tragic accident on Friday. Glover, 11, was reportedly on an inner tube when a jet skier passing by hit him in the head and knocked him unconscious at Lake Lanier in Atlanta, Georgia. Glover has reportedly had no brain activity since being admitted to the hospital. As of Saturday, there was no decision on taking Glover off life support. I Heart Radio Music Festival Lineup Announced Ryan Seacrest announced the lineup for the I Heart Radio music festival. The two day concert takes place September 21 & 22 in Las Vegas. The MGM Grand will be hosting the event. Taylor Swift and Aerosmith are headlining. They will be joined by Usher, Rhianna, Shakira, Jason Aldean and Little Wayne among others.
