How Johnny Cash Was Chosen to Be Memorialized on a Stamp

Country music icon Johnny Cash has been selected to appear on a stamp as part of the Music Icon series.

An interview with MTV Hive states that “every year, the Postmaster General’s Citizens’ Stamp Advisory Committee receives about 40,000 suggestions for what should grace a stamp. Then 30 subjects are chosen. This year, Cash made the cut, which made sense to the postal committee: Cash is not only a country artist but someone whose “influence is felt just about everywhere, from folk to blues and gospel.”

After months of research, art director Greg Breeding chose the picture of Cash that will appear on the stamp. It took six months from being commissioned to final product.

The stamp will be available for purchase this summer.

By shelling out $1.77, you can download the entire eight minute file for Prince’s new song, “Screwdriver”.

According to SPIN, this is what less than two bucks gets you. “When the grainy eight-minute clip picks up, we meet a guitar-wielding girl with a Skrillex ‘do and a rockin’ lady band. They show up for a sketchy audition but while the plot, production and performance all scream “porno flick,” a tiny form soon emerges from a fog-spewing door and beckons the girls into a dark warehouse. We soon discover that Prince has called the women forth so that they can back him as he plays “Screwdriver” to a ’90s-attired audience who dip, bop and twist in (almost) synchronization.”

If you’re dying to see what all the fuss is about, purchase the video via The Purple One’s website or at 3rdeyegirl for $0.88.
